Talking About Weather

The big talk in my classrooms on Friday was all about the weather. It was kind of like I was trapped in an ESL textbook from the 70s or 80s.  I enjoyed the irony….for a few minutes at least.  Then, … Continue reading

Some Snow Falls

When asked about it later, I had to confess that, at the time, I wasn’t quite clear as to whether they were screams of joy or fear. It was obvious later, but not then, and not for at least a … Continue reading

Respect

I write a lot about my students because they give me a lot of material to work with. As we finally embrace winter, the questions begin. Is February warmer than now?                                                  How long does winter last? Is Montreal warmer … Continue reading

From the Night Sky

It was almost unnoticeable. The darkness surrounding the bus terminal as I waited for the bus seemed unusually dark.  The lights from the station itself seemed harsh and uninviting. “Is it snowing?” the person next to me asked. No was … Continue reading

Having to Wear Boots

I wanted to write that it seems pretty early in the season to be wearing boots, but in fact, it seems like the wrong season to be wearing boots. If I am not mistaken, it is still autumn.  Since autumn … Continue reading

Inappropriate Coincidence

Currently, I have only one Brazilian student, which is rare at my school.  She lamented to me yesterday that she really wanted to wear her flip-flops, which are the typical footwear of Brazilians.  She seemed rather pained to have to … Continue reading

Rain only hastens the falling of the leaves from the trees. The drops of water strip the trees bare, leaving only bloody leaf pools. Grim though it may be, I instead think of the leaves as nature’s brilliant carpet underfoot.

Winter Awaken

The title really says it all.  I awoke this morning, thinking maybe there was a chance for one last club ride before the snow fell. Ahem. Though it might have melted before 1 in the afternoon, it certainly didn’t allow … Continue reading

A Winning Smile

I am sure if I read many of the posts from Canadians today, the topic of legalized marijuana would be a popular one. Although, if they are writing from Ontario, they might be critical of the province’s preparation and readiness.  … Continue reading

In Defiance of the Season

In defiance of the season, today was more like a gorgeous spring day. In fact, it might have been an early summer day with the way the temperature climbed beyond its usual station. So, is that Today’s Perfect Moment? Well … Continue reading
