With every passing day, I am acutely aware that my outdoor cycling season is coming to an end. It isn’t too cold to cycle, but rather I know it is going to get there. The sun rises later and even on warm days, it won’t warm up nearly as quickly.
This morning, I went for a ride. I hadn’t been on the bike in a couple of weeks and I suspected that it was going to be tough. Only about seven people signed up for the ride and I suspected that I was going to join a small group of less capable riders.
My house is in a bit of disarray and finding all my cycling stuff and getting out the door proved a greater challenge than usual. With the change in weather arm sleeves meant that I didn’t have to slather myself in sunblock. There was also little fear that my water would get too hot to drink. However, I forgot my portable pump and worried that I would need to change the tube for the entire ride.
The ride itself wasn’t particularly eventful. It felt like it was going to warm up, but then it cooled down for a while. It was another reminder that the season had definitely changed. This was rather ironic as by mid afternoon it was feeling like summer.
The best thing I can say about the ride was that all along my route, little hints of fall colours were evident. I passed a tree with red leaves. I passed under a canopy that had little yellow highlights. There were orange sections way up high and all the colours in between. It’s a beautiful time to ride.
