Having the Time

After a few weeks of wonderful vacation spent with many great people, and with many delicious meals, it was finally time to go back to work. While some people out there might mistake Today’s Perfect Moment as a return to work and work colleagues, I hope that you will not be fooled.  While I (grudgingly) admit to a sense of satisfaction at being back at work and seeing a few (though not all) of the genuine people around me, it could hardly be classed as Today’s Perfect Moment.

Instead, Today’s Perfect Moment is a situation that I found myself in. This morning, long before the sun came up and long before my cat demanded his breakfast, I was awake.  I was awake with time for all the tasks that normally seem rushed.  I ate my breakfast and drank my coffee like a man of leisure.  I had time to listen to the radio.  I even had time to do a few things on my computer.

This stress free morning also meant that my walk to the bus could be carried out without worry. I had time to drink in the atmosphere of this supposedly Winter morning that had neither snow nor sub-zero temperatures.  What I really encountered was a morning with almost no noisy intrusions into my life.  It was eerily quiet.  As I walked to the bus, I had time to reflect, rather than moan.  I had time to pick out little details in the dark that even the harsh street lights and shop signs couldn’t mask completely.

I just had the time.  I just took the time.

About Anthony

I am: equal parts rebel, romantic and shockingly average Joe. a writer trapped inside of an ESL teacher's body. an introverted attention seeker. a teacher who hopes one day to be called "Captain, my Captain." an intellectual who can do some very dumb things. a person whose Japan experience, despite being so long ago, still exerts a strong influence upon him. a lover of books, music, beer, hockey and Pizza.

That does indeed sound like a perfect morning! Having to get up long before dawn, I never even have time for breakfast at home (I’d have to get up even earlier). That’s actually an important point of my future job & lifestyle change list, I hope to have more relaxed mornings.

I love the image of you drinking your coffee “like a man of leisure.” Sounds like a great morning, Anthony. Hope the rest of the day was equally so!

  4. Ahh yes! I love when my mornings run smoothly and quietly and I have time for all the things!

That sounds wonderful! I love it when I can enjoy my coffee leisurely, too.
