I didn’t even flinch when my boss asked if I could cover someone’s class today. Sometimes, I hem and haw, and really consider if more teaching is what I want to do. Obviously I want more money so I can take the Exodus Cycling Trip to Chile this winter, but it isn’t always worth running myself down.
Nevertheless (a phrase that came up in today’s class) I took the class and absently wondered if I was going to go well. They were wan advanced class and sometimes this glorious title confers upon them an arrogance which is not always deserved.
Well, I did take the class, and it went well. It appears that they are not fond of their current teachers–I nipped this discussion in the bud because I did not want to be a conduit for their negativity, and it smacked of gossip.
They were very happy that I corrected their mistakes–well, actually pointed out their mistakes and required them to fix them. Taken aback by their response, I inquired a bit. They said none of the teachers at the school do that. I know this is not true. I also know that fluency and accuracy don’t always correspond and some people weigh things differently.
Basically what I got from all of this was that they appreciated my class. Sounds like Today’s Perfect Moment.
