Evoking Memories

I don’t know if everyone is old enough to remember Welcome Back Kotter. I suppose it must come back from time to time in reruns–but in this Netflix age, perhaps that isn’t true anymore.

I watched the show pretty faithfully and I really loved the theme song and the visuals. I also really liked the ending where a person on a unicycle was pedalling somewhere in New York.  I always thought that was cool and the image stayed with me for a long time.

In high school, I dated a woman who worked as a clown. In addition to juggling, she also could pedal a unicycle. She offered to give me lessons, and though I tried it a few times, never really had the knack–probably why I can’t do a decent track stand today and have to quickly unclip when I come to a red light.

Today’s Perfect Moment occurred when I spotted this person on a unicycle, crossing perpendicular to the flow of traffic. A whole host of good memories came flooding back.  I am sorry I didn’t get a good picture, but I am surprised I got a picture at all.

Lol! That’s so cool you saw him & also that you dated a clown.

  3. I loved Welcome Back Kotter (awesome theme song) and many years later I got to try a friend’s unicycle! I was surprised how easy it was to pick up, But I never left the safety of a soft-carpeted room. I have a friend who unicycles everywhere. Must admit I’m a bit envious.

  4. Now there’s a sight not seen every day! Wasn’t a “Kotter” fan but that theme song’s burned into my brain. Don’t recall ever trying a unicycle. However, had a pogo stick that I absolutely loved to death! I was quite skilled on it, would pogo on and on, counting every jump, seeking numerical greatness, then starting anew if I stumbled. Perhaps that superb innate sense of balance would’ve translated into a unicycle, who knows!
