My student made me laugh today. I doubt that I can do the scene any justice whatsoever. I mean, it probably isn’t funny. No, that’s not true. It’s funny, but I don’t know if I can write it like it’s funny. We’ll see.
My class was joined by five new students today. This was a wonderful thing. They brought new energy, new attitudes, and new perspectives. One of my students is a young Korean woman. She is going to be a fashion designer someday. Another of my students is a medical student from Brazil Apart from being from different continents, different cultures, and different hemispheres, there is another striking difference. She is about five feet tall. He is somewhere in the vicinity of 6’7″.
As they were leaving class, she took one look at him and said, “Wow! You’re really tall.”
It might have been the way she said it. It might have been my tiredness from teaching all day. It might have been the absurdity the situation. It just might have been the completely obvious nature of the whole thing. Either way, I laughed for a good minute. And that laughter was Today’s Perfect Moment.
