July 4, 2014: Friends

  1. If truth be told, friendship could be a perfect moment every day, whether we actively engage in it or not.  It might be cliche to write, but it is in fact true, when you have friends, you are never alone.

It’s rather funny, but I have a small circle of friends.  I am both extroverted and introverted, but like the end of Stand By Me, when he writes  “I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve.  Jesus, does anybody.”  I can’t say I was twelve, but I found my friends early on and have never looked back.

Today, out of the blue, one of my friends called me.  As usual, I felt like no time had passed at all sine we last talked.  If that isn’t true about friends, then perhaps they aren’t really friends.  Perhaps they never were.  I know I am lucky, though I don’t always acknowledge it.

All I can tell you, if you feel like calling your friends, but have nothing to say, or are worried that you’d be disturbing them….. you should just do it.  It was my perfect moment, and it could be yours.

About Anthony

I am: equal parts rebel, romantic and shockingly average Joe. a writer trapped inside of an ESL teacher's body. an introverted attention seeker. a teacher who hopes one day to be called "Captain, my Captain." an intellectual who can do some very dumb things. a person whose Japan experience, despite being so long ago, still exerts a strong influence upon him. a lover of books, music, beer, hockey and Pizza.
