May 19, 2014: A Sure Sign Spring Has Arrived

Today’s perfect moment comes as an epiphany–a word I have always wanted to use since I first read James Joyce’s A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.

This is now a distant memory

This afternoon saw me walking around an unfamiliar neighbourhood in a bid to burn off some calories and procrastinate in getting to my yard work.  Though I cannot point to a single moment of that walk, I am sure the moment came there.  Maybe it was the smell of weed killer on newly tended lawns, or maybe the sight of newly planted flowers, or maybe it was the family playing Texas horseshoes.  Either way, all of these things coalesced when I came upon someone barbequing.  The smell of lighter fluid and charcoal combined with the raging smoke plume made it official…. and though it might have been true a couple of weeks ago, nobody wanted to say it lest we jinx it after such a cold and hard winter….Spring is here.

About Anthony

I am: equal parts rebel, romantic and shockingly average Joe. a writer trapped inside of an ESL teacher's body. an introverted attention seeker. a teacher who hopes one day to be called "Captain, my Captain." an intellectual who can do some very dumb things. a person whose Japan experience, despite being so long ago, still exerts a strong influence upon him. a lover of books, music, beer, hockey and Pizza.
